European Union governance, social dialogue and the teacher workforce.

UCET Annual Conference, November 2020

In this keynote, Jo Helgetun and Ian Menter discuss the rise of an “evidence era” in (teacher) education policymaking in England. They discuss the origins of this phenomenon, contrast the policy practices in England with those in France to illuminate the characteristics of the English model, and debate the epistemological concerns an “evidence era” raises. The keynote ends by providing some recommendations to stakeholders in teacher education on how they can turn politically constructed “evidence” back into evidence, and construct a more robust research base for policymaking through dialogue between academia, teachers, and the Department for Education
